GateHouse supplements its proven track record with established AIS solutions by supporting and actively participating in the design and development of advanced AIS and vessel tracking technologies. Two such examples of GateHouse’s commitment to the future of vessel tracking are LRIT (Long Range Identification and Tracking) and Satellite-based AIS.

LRIT is an IMO driven initiative for tracking vessels over long distances and in areas where existing infrastructures, such as coastal AIS, do not penetrate. LRIT uses the existing Inmarsat satellite messaging infrastructure to regularly retrieve vessel positions. GateHouse has successfully deployed this technology at the Marine Exchange of Alaska. The company has also provided software systems for the proposed global LRIT exchange system.

Satellite-based AIS involves designing and launching specialised satellites that are capable of receiving AIS data from orbit. The position of the satellites in space allows them to cover vast areas of sea that are out of reach of coastal infrastructure. Advanced antenna design and data processing facilities ensure that the greatest possible value is obtained from the available signals. GateHouse has designed and deployed an international data processing and hosting centre that provides customers with controlled access to global vessel data received from AIS Satellites.
